How Great Is Our God – There are moments when human language trembles under the weight of divine truth. Words strain when we attempt to describe the greatness of the Almighty. Yet Scripture continually calls us to behold His majesty. Therefore, we must ask the question with reverence and awe: how great is our God?
The answer cannot be contained in a sentence or even in a lifetime of study. Nevertheless, the Word of God reveals glimpses of His glory. Moreover, every verse draws us deeper into wonder.
The God we worship is not merely powerful. Instead, He is the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last (Revelation 22:13, KJV). Time does not measure Him; rather, He created time itself. Likewise, space does not contain Him; instead, the universe exists because He spoke it into being.
Furthermore, Scripture declares:
“In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.” — Genesis 1:1 (KJV)
From that first verse of the Bible, we encounter a God whose power knows no boundary. He commands light to appear. He shapes oceans. He hangs galaxies like jewels across the heavens. Therefore, creation itself testifies to His greatness.
How Great Is Our God: The Creator of All Things
The greatness of God becomes unmistakable when we consider His role as Creator. Nothing exists apart from His will. Indeed, the visible and invisible worlds owe their existence to Him.
The apostle Paul proclaims:
“For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible… all things were created by him, and for him.” — Colossians 1:16 (KJV)
Therefore, every mountain peak, every ocean current, and every distant star bears witness to His creative power. Moreover, angels and heavenly hosts also exist because He willed them into being.
David recognized this truth when he looked toward the night sky. Consequently, he cried out in amazement:

This truth leaves no room for rivals. God alone holds ultimate authority.
How Great Is Our God: The One Who Holds the World
Many people imagine the world resting on fragile systems or human control. However, Scripture reveals a far greater reality. God Himself sustains all things.
The writer of Hebrews declares that Christ is:
“Upholding all things by the word of his power.” — Hebrews 1:3 (KJV)
Therefore, the universe continues because God wills it to continue. Every sunrise occurs under His command. Every heartbeat depends on His sustaining power.
Likewise, the psalmist celebrates God’s intimate involvement with creation:

“Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see.” — 1 Timothy 6:16 (KJV)
Here we glimpse the blazing purity of the Almighty. Sin cannot survive in His presence. Darkness cannot stand before His light.
Likewise, the prophet Isaiah encountered this holiness in a vision of heaven:
“Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory.” — Isaiah 6:3 (KJV)
Immediately Isaiah realized his own unworthiness. Therefore he cried:

Finally, we must return to the eternal identity of God. He does not simply participate in history; rather, He stands above it.
Jesus declares:
“I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.” — Revelation 22:13 (KJV)
Alpha marks the first letter of the Greek alphabet. Omega marks the last. Therefore, this declaration reveals God’s complete authority over existence itself.
Everything begins with Him. Likewise, everything ultimately moves toward His final purpose.
Furthermore, the psalmist summarizes God’s eternal nature with profound simplicity:
“Before the mountains were brought forth… even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.” — Psalm 90:2 (KJV)
No origin explains Him. No ending awaits Him. God simply is.
Conclusion: How Great Is Our God
So we return again to our question: how great is our God?
He created all things. Moreover, He sustains the universe. He reigns as the eternal King. Additionally, He dwells in unapproachable light. Furthermore, He stands as the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End.
Yet the most astonishing truth remains this: the Almighty invites humanity to know Him.
David therefore calls every generation to worship:

Indeed, the greatness of God deserves more than admiration. It calls for surrender, reverence, and praise.
Therefore lift your eyes beyond the temporary things of this world. Consider the heavens. Remember His Word. Reflect on His power.
And then declare with confidence and awe:
How great is our God.
